LUNG CANCER –AN OVERVIEW

Lung cancer is the condition which is referred to the unruly multiplication of the cells in the lung. There are two types cancer available called as primary and secondary. The primary lung cancer originates in the lung itself and the latter originates from some other parts of the body and arrives at lungs to cause cancer. There are many causes for lung cancer like smoking, exposure to chemical from industries and sometimes genetic reasons. The symptoms include the continuous cough with sputum, and loss in body weight and the loss appetitive nature.

Most of the doctors recommend the people to take CT and MRI scans .Because, the about two scans are capable of showing the clear result about the presence of cancer in the lungs. This is because, sometimes, misdiagnosis may lead to some serious consequences in the later stages. There are preventing measures also available for lung cancer. As we all know, this disease has very less prognosis, i.e, people with advanced stages of lung cancer left untreated can live only for 5-6 months.

In US, for the year 2011, there are more than 0.2 million new lung cancer cases has been found out among the people. Tobacco related cancers are many ranges and the major one is the lung cancer. About more than 3000 second hand smokers were died in the last year, says a report. Smokeless tobacco products are also available which are less dangerous than the tobacco products which emit smoke. But we cannot say that smokeless products are the replacement or cigarettes.

Use of tobacco related products will affect the health of the human body in any way. In the year 2007, the sale of the cigars was increased about to 200%. Whenever we think about the cancer that is caused by smoking practices, then first one comes to our mind is lung cancer. Most of the lung cancer death in humans (around 92% in men and 73% in women) is because of cigar smoking. FOLLOW-UP CARE FOR LUNG CANCER TREATMENT

Even after the completion of the lung cancer treatment, most of the doctors want to continue to monitor the health status of the patients. The doctors will ask about the health status of the patient and they will enquire about any problem regarding the pain after treatment. In people who do not show signs of cancer after treatment, the doctors usually recommend follow-up visits often. So, that the doctors come to know about the current condition of the patient.

Also they recommend CT scan for every 3 to 4 months for the first two years after the treatment. Follow-ups are required to check out for return of cancer in the lungs and also to know the possible side effects of the treatments. Almost every cancer treatments are accompanied with the side effects. Some side effects will be disappeared in several months whereas some last till the end of the life.
